1) Joyce makes use of allusions and metaphors to effectively state his attitude of frustration and pessimism about poverty.
2) I would focus on the allusions, because the author uses characters and things to symbolically represent hope and motivation (the girl he liked), and discrimination and disillusionment (the girl in the bazaar)
3) Joyce’s most compelling argument is that it is worth trying to reach for what you want, even though at the end, you may not get it.
As a highschool student, I have a school that I want to go to when I get out of highschool and I’m applying for it. At the end, perhaps, the school will not accept me. But at least I have a chance of getting accepted by applying, rather than never having a chance at all by not applying for it.
